01Compute and data-centre scope
Capture rack space, power, cooling, compute load, memory, storage, network interfaces, resilience, hypervisor or operating-system dependencies and growth expectations. Server and data-centre decisions should account for migration, backup, management access and support ownership so the installed hardware can be operated cleanly after go-live. Measurement readiness: Choose a practical post-go-live baseline such as stability, coverage, backup success, utilization, incident volume or user adoption so the result can be verified.

Document host resources, virtual-machine count, utilization, storage, network design, licensing, backup integration, high availability and growth headroom. A virtualization project should include migration sequence, rollback, monitoring and handover so consolidation improves manageability rather than creating a new unsupported layer. Implementation readiness: Confirm exact site, access rules, change window, dependencies, responsible contacts and acceptance criteria before engineers or equipment are scheduled.

Describe the symptoms, affected users or systems, frequency, recent changes, available logs, business impact and what has already been tested. A structured support brief reduces repeated diagnosis and helps determine whether the next action is remote troubleshooting, onsite inspection, configuration change, replacement hardware or a wider redesign. Compatibility readiness: Check interfaces, licences, firmware, rack and power constraints, network standards and vendor dependencies before approving replacement or expansion equipment.

Record extensions, users, call flows, numbers, trunks, handsets, conferencing needs, remote users, network quality and any contact-centre or recording requirements. Voice systems depend on network, power and support processes, so the scope should include those dependencies as well as the telephony platform itself. Multi-site readiness: Separate standards that should remain consistent across sites from elements that may vary, then document naming, addressing, security and support conventions for repeatable delivery.
